hi l am after advice if it is worth removing muffler and pipe from cat back and replacing it with a sports muffler on my 3.0 cdi .l wish to soften out the turbo lag.l have had a remap and it has helped. l believe it can run better. l am unable to remove my d.p.f so that is not an option so the next mod l would like to try is an exhaust .Should l save the money or go for it any help ? thanks

Removal of the DPF and an associated re-map of the ecu is quite common in the UK.

When you say 'you can't remove your DPF', do you mean legaly in Australia or you can't find a Garage/Tuning company that will do it?

I suspect a 'Sports Muffler' will make no difference at all on a Diesel in isolation.

Hi ya, its only a matter of unbolting the dpf and cutting it out of the system, you dont need the vacume pipes once the dpf has been deleated just the temp sensor. Its a really straight forward job to do. I wouldn't bother putting any silencers on just a straight pipe as the cat is quite an effective muffler. Any body with a welder should be able to do the job for you. I wouldn't bother cutting the dpf open just stick it on ebay and get some money back from it.

Cheers Martin

thanks for that sounds promising .l get it up on a hoist and see what needs to be done. did it make a significant difference responsive and cabin noise and fuel consumption ? and what happens to the vacuum pipes once l remove dpf .and the temp sensor. ? sorry for the ignorance not much help down in aus land .

Hi ya, it did improve fuel consumption and made the van a lot more responsive. The temp sensor stays connected, i just cut its boss of and re-welded it to the new pipe and the vacume pipes i just blocked off on the rubber hoses. It will be louder if you don't fit a muffler but its down to the individual as to whether its to loud or not. My pipe turns through 45deg just after the flexi hose and exits at the side of the van.

Cheers Martin

hey like the 45 pipe idea. did any fault code come up or anything l need to delete off the ecu ?

Without a DPF, aren't you going to get soot stains down the side of the van ??

yeah l guess..the van spends most of its time on country roads covered in red dirt and dust and flies splattered on the front end it is impossible to keep it clean so lm up for some soot.
