Freeing Frozen Drop Windows

Hi all,

So, first day of ice down here since getting the C140 and the doors wouldn't open because the windows were frozen in place and the small drop they do on opening wouldn't happen..

Anyone got any easy tips / hacks for getting them to drop in this weather so we can get in easily?

I scraped around the edges and the door one eventually went so I could get in but the rear one stayed in place until it had thawed - don't want to do any damage if I can avoid it.

Yeah that was my thinking - was just curious to know if there's any other hacks or methods but, to be fair, warm water does seem the simplest and most effective.

So that's what I'll go with!

Dry the seals thoroughly and then treat them with a rubber care ("gummi pflege") product. Something containing silicone will work well.

Prevention is better than cure.
 
Had similar issues with the frameless windows on my previous CLS and BMW four series , bank card / works pass etc to the rescue , just run it around the lower seal to break the adhesion of the glass / ice.

Tried the water method but always found that it re-froze worse than it previously did.

Used to have the same problem with our CLK, regardless of the windows not dropping, you can still pull the door open and close it again, albeit with a good pull.
Once inside the car, the heating will defrost the windows and after a bit you can then lower and reclose them and they will seal again. Worked for us for 13 years with no problems.
The windows dont drop to allow you to open the door as such, they drop so that after closing the door they go up and reseal against the rubbers. The worst case when still frozen is a bit of wind noise and a slight draught.
Gummi pflege helps too.
 
Micks garage also lists (or used to, have not had to buy for a while) on Ebay, and lists 2 tubes much cheaper per tube than 1. Have used it for years on my main car (S204) and convertible (968 cab now SLK280), it works - but treat the seals at least twice a year.
 
Prevent freezing with rubber care (it will still freeze but less likely and less impact) and once frozen use barely warm water.

To reduce effects of immediate refreezing in very cold conditions, leave the window open a touch for a while and keep warm air on side glass
