Front windscreen washer strange symptoms

Hi,

I have to operate the front washer 3 times to get the water to appear but if I operate it again within a couple of minutes it works first time.

It sounds like the pump is working each time I press it but if I hold for an extended period the water doesn't appear!

Anyone else experienced anything similar?

Yes. I have a new pump a couple of times a year. Working at the moment, since last replacement in November. Fortunately the part is cheap.

Never been convinced of a proper explaination.

Could it just be slighlty frozen, and working the slush from the system?

Each time it goes into the dealer they mutter something about the one-way valve, and then change their mind. They've suggested fitting an inline one-way valve, but whilst under warranty I've preferred them to just replace.
