Noticed some time ago that my fuel pump is humming . First I thought it was the fan but when I switched it off the sound is still there.
My question, should I get a new pump now or is the noise just an age thing ?
Can the pump just pack up while driving or does it give advance warning ?

Change the filter first. If it is still humming then change the pump.

I changed the filter last week because it had a hairline crack !!! ( never seen anything like it on a filter before @-: )
Then I noticed the humming sound which is much louder more audible in the rear but also to be heard in the front.
It doesn't bother me much 'cause I always have the radio on but the missus doesn't like it .....
Since we are planing a biggish tour around Cornwall and so on I want to get the car up to speed.
I do have a good break down cover but don't fancy fuffing about with a broken car during my holidays.
