Hi, does anybody know of any garages in West London that do work on old Mercedes and do not rip you off? It just seems to me when they see your car they quote fantasy prices.. A note of caution, stay away from M-Only!!!:wallbash:

If you can make the trip down the A3 to Prestige Car Services in Horndean they are always winners in my book.

I'll second that, in fact Ollie is so good that he turns down work.
I'll explain previously to going to Ollie I went used to go to another Indie, also recommended.
He said that at my next service I would have to have new rear discs and pads.
So when I booked my first service with Ollie,I said that I also wanted the rear disc's and pads changed .
The out come was Ollie didn't change them as he said that they didn't need to be done.
They by saving me money but losing some for Ollie.
What a genuine and Honest Chap:bannana:

Agree with above +1.

If you are in West London, I have used Wayne Gates and Nair Autos (previously Mercstar) and I think you will find them reasonable.

What do you need doing?

i'm off to see ollie in 10 days with my latest acquisition... 300 mile round trip
more of a pilgrimage then...lol

Yes it is thanks.

I'v had had many experiences with dealers and independents who do work for payment.
Mainly fords in the past I must say, none have / will ever care about working on my car as I do. I'm sure there are very good ones around and as mentioned Ollie has a good rep, whose advice I followed changing my atf gasket and plug. Might have taken a good Indy an hour maybe two. While for me it was surgery and everything was planned and meticulously clean. Sure it took longer but was cheaper and I have absolutely no doubts about the job being done to the letter. When I see numerous post here and there about peoples gearbox jerking or what ever I have no regrets about not using an Indie. And no offense meant to any either.

Could not agree more. Ollie really is THE best are around.I'm uber fussy about my car and whom touches it and therefore make the journey down the A3 to PCS as like everyone on the forum trust him implicitly. That reminds me, I gotta call him today to book my baby in for a wee niggle

Here's a list of my recomendations.-

Why do you seem fit to comment on this topic when you have no concrete/intelligent contribution to it. I really don't get it when people like you make silly comments to an informative/problem post by forum members!!!

And your point is? The OP never stated he/she could fix his/her own car otherwise the topic would not have been posted.

Another vote for PCS here. In fact, going down there tomorrow morning.

It is very early start so as to be able to get back up to London for work at 9.30am but well worth it.

+1 for PCS. Few weeks ago used them for the first time for the 124. I am very particular about who works on my cars. Really impressed with their attitude, attention to detail and price. I basically told them to get the car as good mechanically as it could be so they did major service, ATF change, head gasket, suspension self levelling valve, various suspension rubbers/joints/links, rear brake pipes, rear exhaust box, MOT and some other bits I have forgotten. It now feels like a new car. Just taken it back down to Italy. 1,000 miles in one go with no problems at all. It is a joy to drive and inspires the confidence to use it to cover large distances even at 16 yeas old.
