Gearbox(?) Help please.

Update:

Not quite terminal :)

Low level of ATF (cant remember if the guy said there was only 2.5 litres or he had to add 2.5 litres) probably caused by a leak somewhere near where one of the sensors/plugs are(?). Techy stuff goes over my head but in any event the car is now running like a dream and is booked in to the same transmission specialist for next week for whatever it is that they need to do to refresh/refurb/refit/service something or other.

Happy Chappy.

Thank you for posting back on this.

Those guys that belong to FATE do a good job and do nothing else and their guarantees are excellent

Gearbox leak where that sensor is a common problem on that box.

Glad to hear that its just that :)......Lucky !!!

Pull red tab off trans filler. Push other end thru cap.
You can run without this tab.

Make a dipstick like this (80c between lines, closer to top as poss.)
Just use a single piece of curtain rod.
Push in until it touches pan and read up.

Blue Peter badge for that dipstick! Oh, and a nana! :bannana:

Now, where's my double sided sticky tape?

A quick round-up for enyone interested or who ends up here after a search:-

After having the car diagnosed last week and the ATF topped up, I took the car back today to the specialist who re-checked the gearbox and confirmed there was a weep/leak of ATF from the point where the electrical socket goes into the auto transmission. Apparently the O-rings which seal the join can perish leading to a loss of fluid.

So, a new socket fitted, a new filter, new ATF and lubegard, road tested and washed. Total cost inc VAT, including last weeks visit for the initial diagnosis and ATF top-up ...... £114.

Happy Chappy Jim :)
