Gearbox program selector

Good afternoon everyone,

I have a small issue that has I have just noticed.
When I am driving along sometimes the small red position indicator light flickers on and off. When it is not lit I cannot select any other drive program...any ideas what I need to be looking for ?

Got the dreaded Shifter mechanism/module fault since the weekend. Replaced brake light switched and no improvement. Currently intermittent, but usually won't allow car to start, or in some cases will not allow N to P unless I lift off brake pedal. With some quick googling, it seems the solder...

Thanks Larkone, this is the knob I mean as you can see S+ is lit up red.
Almost daily mine has an issue with the red light flickering and going out which then stops me selecting the one I want,
