E 500 Coupe.
After a free health check at the main MB Dealer, it was noted the innermost edges of the front tyres were wearing.
It was recommended that the steering geometry be checked.
The rear tyres are wearing evenly.
E500 C207 5.5 sport coupe 2010 on a ten plate. 65k miles.
I enquired as to cost....£288....inc vat.
This sounds excessive. .???

F1 autocentres (not a fan) but they have that kit and I know it's way less than halfway that (assuming they know what they are doing.....)

Yes, excessive... Take it to an independent tyre shop with a Hunter alignment machine.
Agree completely with the Hunter.

You’ll probably pay around £80

You got a McConechy’s nearby ? Got my S500 done with them

McConechys 5 mins away. Will enquire tomorrow. Cheers.

I had this with my E500 - had it aligned on a Hunter machine which showed alignment was out. They supplied a couple of genuine MB Caster Adjustment Bolts to get it right - cost about £120 all-in if I remember rightly. The actual alignment service was about £60 of this. Made quite a difference to the feel of the steering.

Just checked the receipt - camber bolts x 2 £50 inc vat and fitting. Alignment £60 inc vat so £110.

:) Yes indeed.
Just returned from having the car on a 'Hunter system' all four wheels, two year free return warranty....Cost...
...£100 inclusive of Vat.
Had an email from the dealer offering to do the job at a reduced rate of £140..
I was expecting some kind of test around Pythagoras' theorem.

Its not so much where alignment is done, but who does it. You can have the best equipment in the world but in the hands of someone incompetent or careless------????

I've become cautious about this.

My tyre guy will do the alignment for free if I buy 4 new tyres, I agreed to this on my old W211 even though I didn't have any particular issue with the steering.

The result was that the car drove perfectly well on UK roads but pulled to the right on continental roads, in hindsight I wish that I had left it alone.

Hi grober.
Totaly agree on this, it applies to almost anything you get done.
But a cost of £288 vs £100 is ridiculous. At the end of the day you have to trust it's been done correctly, at a cost of £288 or £100.:)

I certainly wouldn't assume that the more expensive alignment shop was necessarily better. In the absence of further information, a pragmatist might offer that in the event of a poor alignment that the £188 price difference would help defray the costs of two new front tyres should the worst happen.;)
