hi

i bought this item on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16145&item=5173289844&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

i have popped it into the computer, connected a CD drive to it (as master) and installed the drivers for the IDE card (they come up as Silicon Image Sil0680 ATA/133 RAID CONTROLLER in the hardware device in windows....

although the drivers seem to have installed properly Windows cannot see the cd drive attached to it - it only sees the normal drives attached to the IDE ports on the motherboard - not the drive on the IDE card....

i know its a long shot as all hardware is different, but any ideas?

Hi,

A few assumptions: It sounds like you have more than one hard drive, if so try connecting one of these (not the one with the operating sysem!) to the card, likewise try connecting the CD to the IDE connector on the Main Board. This should give you an idea if the CD is OK, you already know the hard drive is working. If the CD still doesn't work that is probably at fault. If the Hard drive isn't showing then there is a problem with the card.

The card could be something simple like not being fully seated, likewise check the cable. In my experience faulty cables are rare.

Try changing the CD jumper to cable select instead of Master

I would try the above to eliminate certain things before going further
