Getting the CLS 320 cdi to 300BHP

Well after getting my ATF fluid changed and noticing a marked improvement in the gear changes, (thanks alf230). I recommend anyone with a 7g box who hasn't done this at the required 37,500 mile interval and who is experiencing a few harsh shifts to do so) I thought what is my CLS lacking? And the answer came to me more power :).

Now 224bhp is nothing to laugh at especially coming from a W203 C180k but if the potential for more is available then why not use it? Now I have been doing my research and have noticed a few things:

1) Brabus do a tuning box for the CLS 320cdi which will increase the BHP to 272.

2) Angel, West tuning and MSL in Birmingham are all reputable companies used by members on this forum who can increase the BHP to roughly the same and also delimit the car and also supposedly increase economy.

But I was thinking has anyone on here combined the two together? In other words getting the Brabus chip and then a remap on top of that? What are the possible consequences I face with regards to strain on the gearbox and engine? My car has 58,000 on the clock will this be a problem?

I know the max torque rating for a 7g box is 700nm (thanks diesalman) so if the brabus chip adds lets say 100nm of torque (being very optimistic here) and the remap adds another 75nm we are still around the 680nm mark still not over the limit and the BHP should be around 300.

So my fellow MBclubers please chime in and im going to see if I can make my CLS's one of the fastest in the UK.

You won't get double the power increase. The Brabus kit is a piggyback unit that tricks the ECU into producing more power/torque.

Both would be a waste of money.

Double chipping an engine? has that been done before?

Why not just got a custom remap to around 300 bhp?

I suspect that at that amount of additional fuel the EGT would be off the scale and the pistons and turbo would soon walk out.

Worth it for a test though, should give us invaluable information.

Isn't that like deciding to fit two air filters?

If you fit Brabus chip and then remap over it you have lost the Brabus map you just fitted

No you haven't, because the Brabus is an add on amplifier, so will increase the duration of injection of whatever the ECU outputs.
No need for both though, just go for a more aggressive remap...and bigger turbo and intercooler, and exhaust..the list goes on.

Does it go to 11 ?

Yeah, and if ya paint the Brabus Box bright RED then you'll get another 50 bhp on top of all the other guff! :thumb:

Id go with the brabus box, they are excellent... Just note that they arent waterproof as my valeter found out...

a brabus chipped CLK320 I recently bought soon became a standard CLK320.

Maps can't get wet! ;)

(Unless they have RAC on em!)

48bhp on top of all the other guff, please J, 48bhp - let's not push the envelope too far.
