Giving up !!

Isnt that a switch to release the shifter lock?
Does it sit just above pedal or hidden under the back covers?
I believe it does both. Go back to post #15 and have a mooch about on Ebay via the link and see what's what with that particular switch. It has 4 contact points which would (normally) point to two contacts , one for brake and one for shifter position . Could also be used on manual cars by using just one set of contacts.

Bang on the money Pete it is a dual purpose switch, it as two separate plugs

Cheers pete.

But where is the switch? I cant see anything above the exposed bit of the pedal.

Assuming this is plunger operated by the pedal,
close to the pedal pivot the switch is pushed in from above and rotated to lock.

To remove, press the plastic locking flap inward and rotate. Then it should lift out from above. Then unplug.

I've come across 2 types of switch, both similar, there maybe more types. The keyway for the plug was different but I managed to adapt to fit.

Took the cover above pedals off , No switches anywhere...

I think you should start over again at the basics.
1) check the fuses (with the ignition on & off) if ok then (2) check the bulbs again (when replacing bulbs always make sure the pins positions on old 1's match new 1's) if ok then (3) check if there is a positive and negative feed at the brake bulb holder (if not) then (3) check the main holder and holder connector for (corrosion, alignment of pins) also positive and negative feed at the connector (if not then) trace the wire back, maybe broken somewhere (sometimes the wire does break near the hinge, maybe take the panels off and have a look - may include striping some of on the black tape/surround.

Maybe put your old SAM unit back in.

Will do .
I did check the fuse 62 which is in the engine bay , visually it looked ok.

It could be a breakage in the wire from the SAM to the the brake light bulb.
I might have to unplug it from same and bulb holder and check continuity
The annoying bit is there are no bulb warning messages on dash like they used to when a bulb is blown.

Replaced bulb holder still no joy.

Perhaps wiring loom?

I think you need a good indi with star, replacing parts not working, look like they move ya pedal switch to servo, in process did they use or link same circuit to abs, esp yaw sensor, could fail be a by product of another sensor fail

From my experience mb electrics make no sence

I used Icarsoft to check the brake pressure switch output... Seems to be working fine.. pressure increases as I press the brake pedal...when released returns to around 0.

1-NO FAULTS ON DASH OR DIAGNOSTIC.
2- REPLACEMENT SAM FITTED
3-NEW BULBS FITTED
4- TRIED REPLACEMENT BULB HOLDER.
5- TESTED BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH.
6- CLEANED CONTACTS ON WIRING.

all the above done and nothing

Agree , but I think I have checked all i can think of , the car not showing any bulb error on dash is puzzling

You are still throwing parts at it without, as suggested, visiting an experienced indy with the equipment to diagnose the fault. Why?

I will book it in for diagnostic with a local mercedes specialist for them to troubleshoot , if too expensive to fix then time to let the old girl go
