B180 SE (w246), A160 (W169) Avantgarde, Porsche 911 (997 C2)
Out A160 (w169) is coming close to its 3 year old birthday so we have been thinking of replacing it. The new A class is too small for our needs so the natural option is the B class. Saying that we had no issues with the A160 and my wife loves it. And as is well equipped ( Avandgarde with few other options) she is not missing any modern toys. What I am personally missing is a bit more power ( massive difference going from my 911 to that) so the B180 petrol should be able to provide a bit more (diesel does not make sense as my wife does less than 10k a year and most of the trips are short)
So based on that I started getting quotes and managed to secure a very good discount for a new B180. But then we went today and saw the GLA and my wife started having second thoughts. Actually when we started comparing the current the B class and the GLA my wife was always voting in favour of the current car...
For me the most sensible thing to get is the B class but I like the GLA but is has less space and will not be as practical. But if we are talking practicality the current one served as well over the last 2.5 years. And also it looks like there is a bit of demand for the latest models so I would have no problem selling it rather than PX
Anybody is similar position ? Any thoughts or opinions ?

Not in a similar position, but my wife has an A150 (W169) which she really likes. It's now 5 years old and replaced her earlier W168 (diesel), and she kept that when she bought the W169 (both bought new), happier to use the older one for carting things about when necessary. She's looked at the new A Class, but it isn't for her.

I can't see that changing to a B180 will make much difference if you're considering the fact that the A-class is slower than a 911, they're just totally different. One of my cars is a TVR, but I'm still quite happy driving the W169 as they are just different cars for different purposes.

If you're only thinking of changing it because it's 3 years old, why not just hang on to it. My wife's W168 was still going well after 9 years and 95000 miles when we eventually sold it. If you really want to get another car, why not have a toy like a Caterham :)

Good point.. Don't get me wrong I love driving the A160. It has a very smooth little engine but when we do trips in Europe with it I need a bit more power and I do not expect the performance of my other car. The B180 has 27 more HP and 60Nm more torque at much lower revs and its not much heavier than the current car..
Keeping it is an option that I have in the back of my head...and need to find good reasons for it and against it :)

We have an A180 CDI (169) now 8 years old and 50000 miles we keep thinking about changing but the B class is slightly big and the GLA an aquired taste! The A class has been reliable with a new injector £650 and the fuel tank replaced under warranty, the bottom of a couple of doors are slightly rusty. All in all probably keep your A class for a couple more years.

Hope this helps!

Keep the A Wagon (I have both W168 and W169)

The W169 is an A180 8 years old with 50,000 miles (like post above) and full MBSH - No rust. It's not as versatile as the W168 LWB but its an easy drive and has cracking MPG

We have looked at the B class many times, if we were to buy one I would go for the later face lifted models.

Id say the new B class isnt just face lifted. Its completley new and lower than the previous model so not as good if you like a raised seating position.
I quite fancy one but the seating position isnt as tall as the previous A or B class or the Cmax she currently drives.
