Hi everyone.
Just wanted some help with changing a main battery for a GLA 64 Plate diesel.

The cars struggling a bit on starting and from the menu it's showing

Car off 11.9v
Car on and not driving its on 14.7v
When parked up it went to 12.0v

It's the original battery and more then 5 years old, so thinking to change it.

Is this a main dealer option or can we just buy a suitable AGM battery from Halfords etc and fit that? Does it need coding ?

I’ve used Tayna.co.uk on numerous occasions. Just be sure to measure your battery before buying as there are a couple of options for the car.

No coding required.

Buy from an MB dealer. It will be correct size and type, the quality is excellent and it will be right first time. Avoid the Halfords batteries, we find they don't last as well as the genuine items.

Might stick to yausa as its half the price! Was just worried that changing it myself might flag errors if it needs coding in

It may not last as long.

I'm finding AGM batteries on diesels to only be lasting 5 years anyways , some mb batteries are made by Exide , not the best from China I hear , anyways I just bought a Bosch 115 size for £149 brand new . Bosch and varta from the same factory apparently.Brookfield Business Partners LP, Think your gla will be the same type 315 mm long .

It's better to buy the best that you can afford, if the old one has lasted since new why not stick with an MB battery & get it coded by your indie.
I replaced the AGM battery in my car last winter & it cost just short of £300

Ah great.

Well im looking to sell the car in a year or two once the finance goes so just want something to tide me through the cold weather. After driving it a bite more, the batteries holding at 12.2 v but thats still low i guess - a change is due

Mercs quoted £240 but yausa from halfords is 200 and luckily after the recommendation of tayna - its only 156 there so will probably order and just try to replace it myself

Still not sure because of the mixed messages about coding the battery!

They dont need coding . Certainly not on a 64 reg anyways.

Another vote for Tayna batteries, I have used them twice for car batteries and also for house alarm ones. The battery that I got for my E 350 (March 2022) cost £145 incl delivery next day and its a Varta AGM the same as the factory item that it replaced. This is an 80ah battery, I would expect the one for a GLA diesel to be less

I use Tayna for all my batteries, never coded any of them either and they've all lasted longer than the factory fitted battery they've replaced.

This was taken February 2021 , original battery on my 2011 .

It's STILL going !

I have bought 3 batteries from Tanya and The Battery Group on EBay, next day service and no issues at all.
I did a small guide when I changed the battery on my 2014 E250, I used a motorbike battery to keep all the settings, but you don’t need to at all, just need to reset the windows and maybe the mirrors.
The batteries do not need coding.

Official merchandise from Mercedes, made by Exide . Down to half charge after 3 days .fitted in 2018. Short journeys kill these things, along with the aux capacitor pack.

Thank you everyone for the help!
Changed it out today
Took an hour! Because had go try and wiggle it free from under the lip of the engine bay but all done
Saved a fare bit. Tayna came in at 147 for a yausa 5 year
Noticed the voltage was a lot higher so think the old (original 64 Plate) battery was on its way out. No point risking it over the cold weather we'll get.
car started strained up! Thank you so much to everyone for helping!

Charge the old one and sell it for £30 , gets you a bit back 👍
