Tow bar kits from MB are expensive, and they supply Westfalia tow bar kits with both Westfalia and Mercedes parts numbers. I would contact Tamzin (details below) and ask for advice - excellent service. I would imagine the foot operated boot release will just be disabled when trailer electrics are connected.
Thanks for this Bobby Dazzler, my email has now changed so for anyone interested in the Westfalia GLC detachable towbar, even models with auto boot sensors, please contact me at t.halpin@westfalia-automotive.com or our Bristol Fitting Centre on 01179 551011 option 2
We can professionally relocate the sensors so they are still operational, we also have coding equipment for the correct dedicated wiring kits
For cars already built it may be possible to retrofit if the car has been type approved for towing. You need to check the information plate which states the permissible weights, probably inside the driver's door shut. Take a photo and post it here, and a member will be able to interpret the information for you.
I've seen posts elsewhere that say that the factory fit tow bar upgrades the cooling and gearbox oil cooler. Is this right, it seems that would be expensive. Looks like I will go down the aftermarket route so I'd be interested if the towing capacity is the same?
