Hi all,

I’m looking at getting my first AMG but can’t decide between GLC 63 and GLE 63 (coupe version for both). Internal space seems no difference although the GLE is a much larger car. I’m looking at 2018-2019 model so:

GLC63:
More modern interior
Most comes with performance exhaust which I think it’s a big plus?
4.0 v8 so better fuel efficiency
4 matic+

GLE63s
Slightly dated interior but have airplay
Seat ventilation
5.5 v8 I’m told it’s about 20-25% more fuel consumption - also much heavier car
Overall better material compare to GLC (nappa leather etc)
Only 4 matic and can’t seem to find one with performance exhaust

Just wondering what’s your experiences/thoughts about this two and what would you recommend?

many thanks 🙏 😁

If you need the extra space, towing ability, or slightly better (for an AMG!) off road capability - or just prefer the 5.5 litre engine - then go for the GLE 63 S.

If you prefer the car to be compact for urban driving and parking, or slightly sharper (for an SUV!) handling - or just prefer the 4.0 engine - then go for the GLC 63 S.

You can’t go wrong with either. If we didn’t need the space, towing ability and marginally better offroad capability then we’d give the GLC a shot - they’ve very very good.

Well I have a Gle63s and did look at the Glc and drove it, both are great cars.
Glc might have the tyre skip problem all Glc ,s have.
Heated rear seats in the Gle are stock and not available in the Glc.

Thanks a lot for the reply - I don’t have experience with either engine so was kinda hoping to get some comments from owners on that regard. But I’m leaning towards the GLE mostly because of the spec and visually I think GLE looks better (longer so the sloped back looks more natural to me).

didn’t know the off-road is better on GLE, I thought the 4matic+ on GLC is a better 4matic version.

Heated rear seats are definitely a big plus for me as my daughter is almost tall enough not to use car seat.

I have not test drive them yet only by looking at reviews and spec/options I’m liking the GLE better. But also wanted so know if people will choose the GLC over GLE for technical/performance reasons? (though the glc seems to have a common issue).

The Gle63s is loaded inc Led head lights.
Only options are Distronic plus and drivers pack, trim options are few with carbon, piano black and stock silver.
Seat colours etc.
Oh and the very rare 550 tow bar!
Search and you will see mine.
What I don’t like on the Glc apart from tyre skip is the center console, the ski slope.

lovely gle63 you got there, love the contrasting colours and carbon panels. not sue why but all the for sale gle63 coupes are black leather seats which is a bit boring for me.

how long did it take you to find yours? I’ve been looking for over a month now but only 2 or 3 being newly listed.

I narrowed it down with Distronic and drivers pack, very few for sale but came across this one.
Just changing the tyres to Michelin PS4 SUV.
It’s on Pzeros and all have side wall damage.
Typical one owner London Chelsea tractor on school runs.

if you go for the night edition it comes with performance exhaust and delimited to 175 ,or if the gle has drivers pack on the earlier models it comes with the sports exhaust. i prefered the ride in the suv more than the coupe it felt more planted where as the coupe feels a little skittish, but i prefer the looks on the coupe. great car and super rare.distronic is also a nice option to have as is rear entertainment for the children.

Looking at the brochure the night edition does not seem to include performance exhaust, only the AMG performance studio pack comes with PE. I much prefer the Coupe but don't know why almost all of them have black leather seats.
I have not had a car with rear entertainment but I 'd think iPad is much better for that purpose with a good bracket? Will defo want one with BO speakers though.

the earlier models before the night edition the perfomance exhaust only came as a option through the amg perfomance package.the later night editions 2018 came with the perfomance package as standard which included the sports exhaust. the b&o sound system was an expensive option new £3495 so not many were specced with it but the sound system was brilliant ,very rare to find a gle63s coupe with b&o.
the reason most gle's advertised have black leather is because there was only 3 leather options black, brown or cream i guess most dealers specced them with black for resale as most of them were registered as demo's to begin with.

Thanks- managed to locate the Jan 2018 brochure to look at the specs.
The Sports exhaust was also standard option for pre-2018 GLE63s, so basically post-2018 MB removed the option of performance exhaust from GLE63s line?

I’m not very familiar with AMG terms, what’s the difference between the sport exhaust and performance exhaust - I know the performance exhaust you can manually open the valve by pushing the ‘exhaust’ button ( when I was looking at the GLC63 a lot of them have this option), how is the sport exhaust different from performance exhaust or standard exhaust if I may ask?

It has driver modes, comfort/ sport / sport plus and the exhaust changes note.

I think you meant to write Burmester. MB have used B&O in the past but now use Burmester...

nope, harmon kardon came with the gle63s as standard or with the premium pack,b&o was a £3495 option, burmiester is being used on the new gle63s which has just been launched.

the sports/performance exhaust is not like the other models that you see with a button that you press like on the glc63, in the brochure pre 18 gle63s may say sport exhaust as standard but to have the performance exhaust you would have to have had the amg pefomance package/drivers package code 250 which was a cost option of £1195 and the sound of the exhaust changed depending what setting you was in. comfort= quiet, sport =loud, sport plus= louder still pops and bangs. hope that helps.

If I had the money

GLE63 over the GLC63

I really do like the GLC63 (nothing wrong with them) and would own one no problem but if your in a position to choose I would take the GLE63.

If you do end up getting the GLC63 make sure it’s the estate they look so much fatter and aggressive than the coupe

If you end up getting the GLE63 make sure it’s the coupe they look more sexier than the estate 😂

Okay, thanks, so basically it’s an automatically controlled valve, open/close depending on the mode. just don’t have the manual ‘open’ button as the GLC63.
