Glycol contamination s/w211 symptoms

I'll find out more when I hope to collect the car tomorrow after work.

Driving to car to him today the fault through the transmission is getting worse and worse. I honestly think the damage is well and truly done.

Fingers crossed buddy, This is why i changed the rads on all the 211's i have owned. Yours has done well at over 200k though!

No reason to disbelieve the garages findings Tom.
If its the TC, this place come highly recommended with a quick turnaround.
Might be worth a call ito see if its finacially viable to get a recon TC.

JP (Automatic Transmissions) Ltd.

Thanks Roger. If it turns out to be the TC I will indeed give them a call. Thanks for the link.

Have a couple of options to go with. But going with the more cost effective one. That's suits a car of this age and mileage.

I'm told a really good second hand gearbox/TC. And radiator. New cooler pipes. Which I believe are difficult to source nowadays for the s/w211. obviously all new fluids. I'm happy with the cost it seems the right thing to do. So alls well should have to E320 CDI back on the road soon!!!!

I'll update and hope to report back on how the old girl is performing once I get the thumbs up to collect.

Just to add, I can't praise Automatic Transmissions of Hornchurch enough.

Thanks to all for your very knowledgeable advice who contributed to the thread. Thanks Guys :thumb:

Second hand Torque Convertor when a full reconditioned unit is maybe less than £300 (I Paid £240 for last one)?

I'd get the box etc. out, send the TC off to a specialist (Mackie or JP) and see what they report on it.

I'm never a fan of spending all the time/money on the labour and then using old parts like clutches and thrust bearings etc. ;)

I see what your saying but removing parts and sending away is cost for me. I have been quoted £1,300. For all the above. I have been told the box and TC are in good shape. Plus the rad and all fluids and new cooler pipes. This is fitted I am really happy with the cost.

I had a figure I didn't want to exceed but £300 pound over isn't going to break me. So I have gone this route. I appreciate your advice all the same. :thumb:

Also the old box was apparently in not great shape. So doing just a TC refurbish would be very risky. Badly corroded also was the gearbox. I think for what I have been quoted it's very fair cost. And the guys doing the work have a great reputation!

I suppose time will tel. But I have bitten the all the same :thumb:

The bullet I meant to add !!

I was told exact same same and it turned out to just be the Torque Convertor so I'd have thought having it checked may be an idea. ;)
Of course there are only a few companies with the machinery required to strip and rebuild a TC and it doesn't look like the firm you are using has such equipment.

Hope it all goes to plan for you, sorry to harp on, just giving you some past experience as I've done a little on the W211. :)

I thought I would update the thread with our S211 E320 CDI.

So collected the car today. The gearbox shifts as smooth as butter. Really glad we decided to have the work done on the car. Pulls so well this engine.

Big thanks to Automatic Transmissions in Hornchurch Essex. The guy i delt with was very knowledgeable and kept me well informed on what were my options. And really did put me at ease with the work they did undertake.

Just driving the car home I can Tel the car is shifting so much better. It's like so responsive and you don't feel the shifts up or down. The car has 207k which is high mileage but I hope to add a few more thousand miles to it now.
