Google Base

Not used base but google adwords and they had the opposite result I was after.

The costs quickly spiral and the hit rate/purchase rate was low. I guess it depends on the business though and what the products are.

Google base I've not ebven heard of before so I doubt much is to be gained from it just yet. Does it just update google products listings? If so, I havce done this for a while but found it very time consuming to keep on top of it. The upload had to be done in a very specific format and at specific intervalls too which didnt make it easy at all.

Yes - our site has used it for a while now as initially froogle, google shopping and now base - a feed is submitted at 2am daily and we get a few orders a day from it directly (trackable)

One way to kill two birds with one stone is to have an ebay shop as all titles are auto submitted to base for you

I'm sick of ebay...

I'll stick a few things on base and see if it creates traffic.

Sorry missed adwords - number one - have an adword of your own company name as if you dont your competitors can now do so without Google being concerned (and if you so wish you can use your competitors name as a keyword)

To effectively use adwords (its a bigger money pit than any Merc) PLEASE put order route tracking in place 1st (salestrack or similar) then pick something you have that most others dont - say Mushroom mats for a R129 / 98 and adword it - remember generic costs £££ and gets low order value / return

On ebay the idea is NOT to sell via ebay anymore - more to route traffic to your site, you are forbidden to link but an email / phone number is ok we have a very clear "pre purchase email help at [email protected] " and a lot of people enter our site via the email second part.
