A 5 year old £11k value lexus px'd for the CL63 at £40k agreed value - and the extra insurance due for 5 months left on the policy is

£75

Gob smacked to say the least, I asked them to double check and it's correct.

Result !!

Car insurance premiums are strange! Unless there's a policy which prohibits an insurer insuring high value vehicles then the premium appears to have little baring on vehicle value.

I guess vehicle value only matters in a total loss, as they're all similarly expensive to repair when you factor in hire car charges and ambulance chaser claims, and payouts for serious injury or death makes car repair costs appear small in comparison.

Looked at the CL63 the other day at the main dealers, very nice looking motor. Insurance on a Lexus does appear expensive. Traded a Lexus for a Vw Phaeton, the VW was slightly cheaper.

Once you reach a certain age with a reasonable driving record the CL isn't expensive to insure. I assume it's in part because it has only 4 seats (1 less occupant at risk) and isn't a boy racer type machine has ESP and decent crash protection. Some insurers will demand a tracker be fitted.

I wonder if Lexus attract an insurance loading, high claims/per car.

It might be because they are so dull the owner nods off and stacks it into a tree.

It's got a tracker but it's so old it doesn't need to be activated. £50k with Avila the cl is worth much less
