Harry's Garage: R129 SL600

I want an SL600 R129 too ..

£5200, incredible bargain

Incredible value. Makes you wonder why some spend 30 grand on a hyped up SL60 when there's this.

An interesting watch - thanks for posting. A few observations ...

It's had the standard ADS stripped out, and the replacement (spring) suspension looks low at the front.
It's on non-staggered monobloc wheels.
Driver's seat is in a right state and some of the interior trim looks a bit ropey (there's a gap below one of the seat switch panels).
I noticed an orange light showing on the dash when he was on the motorway.

So some of the above might have contributed towards the bargain price.

As mentioned it's had clear front indicators fitted but not the side repeaters (very minor).

"Panoramic hardtop was originally a £12k or £14k extra" ... erm no, around £2500. Wonder why he didn't bother getting it sprayed to match the car?

Interesting comment that he'd owned an SL60 for a week but didn't like it.

For me the fact that it's totally silent most of the time is one big reason why I wouldn't want a 600! :D

It is also a 1993 car with facelift bumpers and pre-facelift mirrors.

I suspect it has some accident history.

Bit of an omission given that it's just a case of changing the outer shells. It's only when you go to the later rabbit ear style that you have to change the mirror frame.

Now having watched the video, 2 months, with a solar charger attached? Wuss. I've left mine for 3 times that unaided and it still fired first time.

Warning light is for the washer fluid.

I spotted that too.

But £5200, you have to expect some compromises :)

ADS cars also have no headlight level adjustment, so being low at the front could be a bit of an issue there.

Nice trick with the 50p piece though :)

Could indicate another small issue? There's a small check valve hidden away under the reservoir that fails quite commonly ... causes the fluid to leak out via one or other of the headlight washers.

Mind you he did say that on these cars the bonnet never needed opening other than when they were being serviced ...

I really enjoyed the review...I am trying to convince myself I need a R129 SL600 to go with my SL300, right time of year to buy one for sure:thumb:, my logic entry level engine with top end engine...just not sure the mrs will agree:(:D

I liked this because the car is great and he gets it for what it is...

And I liked it because I booked a gite for a couple of weeks down in the south of France )next June) the other day. It was one of the reasons I purchased an R129 - to go cruising in the south of France..

I think his point was that the engine is very refined on idle. Give it some and it roars beautifully. Open up the exhaust and it will sound good all the time.

Right, that's it. I'm off to Autotrader

Already been...their is 1 SL600 R129 at just under £10k...less miles I think,
