Have many members fitted a non subscription GPS Tracker?

Having downloaded the Mercedes Me app and found that the locator is not currently working. I thought it would be a good idea, to buy one that purely tells me the exact location of the car, even when been driven.
The Apple Tags are good, but I was thinking about something else.
Some of the DIY ones, that you connect directly to the battery, seem too easy to locate as they sit on top of the battery.
Can anyone recommend one, say around the £100 range, that I can just hide in the car.
Or should I just bite the bullet and go for a full tracker with the additional subscription charges and if so which one would you recommend?

On my last car i used an old android phone (wired in to keep it constantly charged) and put one of the free phone locater apps on it and my normal phone. Cost was £5 per month for the data. I accidently left it in when i sold it so I tracked the new owner for the first month until the data ran out! Big bother was indeed watching him!!

That’s a good option. Probably better coverage in remote areas if it’s proper GPS. As I understand it, the Apple tags aren’t, they rely on other Apple devices being close by and with location services switched on.
