Well, after what seemed an eternity i finally made it up to view the car on saturday......

Turns out the old duffer has struck gold - or atleast silver...

Overall it was in "good" condition for a 37 year old car with only 2 areas of rust worth mentioning. One small hole in the spare wheel well, and by the accelerator pedal the floor had been fixed from below but they left the crap up above. So both really very easy fixes.

On removal of the heater blower panel in the engine compartment it was evident that the bulkhead was in good nick with a small amount of very very light surface corrosion in one of the areas. Again, easily fixable.

There are of course some other little bits and it is by no means concourse but a very good useable classic car that will not require any serious attention at all.

The engine. drivetrain and mechanicals all worked well and it drove straight - as any large heavy boat would (haha).

A big thanks to Derek for all his help and advice as to what to look for:thumb:. I shall send him some pics and hopefully he can post them for me as i'm crap at that sadly...

Thanks again.

Im glad the 'old duffer' hehe is realising his dream and that the car isn't a lemon :) I hope he has many happy trips out in it.

Really pleased for your dad. A real winner there by the looks and another happy Merc owner. Time to bin the Porker and get a real car...

Result, hope he enjoys it!

Wonder what he'll buy next on eBay? ;)

Don't say that - i can't take the pressure!!

Actually he's already hinting how much he really wanted the 60s pagoda variant :wallbash::doh:

What a dramatic story with happy ending! Happy motoring to your dad.

well at least he has a good base for a part ex:thumb:

Tony.

Yes. That's his reckoning. I told to him to atleast drive one before making a decision this time. Personally i don't think he's got the money at the mo and with a busy year ahead of him he won't have time to indulge... But who knows!!

How old is he?

Late sixties, can't actually remember to be honest :-0.

Just he's not a forum sort of chap. He has an ipad & iphone and likes surfing, just not an interactive chap.

On another note he has found a specialist near where he lives and had the car in for a full fluids change and tune up as i think it was running a tad rich. No doubt they might find some other bits i'll keep you all posted..

Will indeed be nice to see the story unfold
