Morning all !

Ready to put the cylinder head back on this morning......

('94 e220 Coupe W124)

The manual I am using however contradicts itself on the tightening of the head bolts.
In the text it says to tighten in the correct sequence to 40 lb/ft, then turn a further 90deg
However the table displayed shows exactly the same but with a further 90deg turn on top. i.e a 3 stage process.

Can anyone please clarify if this 2nd 90deg turn is correct or not ?

*For the record the 6 cylinder engine is a 3 stage process in both the text and the table, making me think the table is correct and the text is just a typo.

Cheers

Although I can't confirm the actual figures, I would expect 2 * 90 degree turns to ensure complete clamping force?

What size are the bolts?

Recently I've done 2 diesel engines with clampings at 20nm/60nm then 2* 90 deg and a Renault petrol with 20nm then 270 deg.

Ive discovered another thread now that confirms it does require the second 90deg turn.

Thanks anyway dieselman
