Heads-up display GPS with Virtual Cable
Two things plague GPS users: being forced to deal with dubious direction vocalizations and the amount of time spent looking at the screen when you should be paying attention to the road. MVS is developing a solution and it's likely the most revolutionary concept to date.
The system is comprised of a series of mirrors that project a three-dimensional line onto the windshield giving drivers a heads-up display of their intended path of travel. The Virtual Cable shown above the top of the windscreen is usable at night and seems to integrate cleanly into the surrounding environment, allowing users to focus on the road and simply use their peripheral vision to guide them.

Yuk - I'd really hate that.

What I would like is the simple icons you get in the cluster (on the E anyway) in a heads-up format, plus speed and important warning messages (in icon form).

HUD is a great ergonomic advantage, can't understand why it's never been incorporated in vehicles. Has to be much safer than screens and instruments dotted all over the place.

Just like the BMW offering? :)

Simple is definitely the way to go and gets my vote.

Not too keen on that red line in the sky.....too much heads up..

Also why do Tom tom / mobile sat nav owners insist on sticking the thing on the windscreen ...I saw one woman with it stuck just under her mirror ..surely that must impair her vision...Also why do so many insist on having the thing on daylight mode at night.....a bright light right in their eyes in condusive to safety....

Mind you if you put your tax disc on your windscreen in the wrong place wait to get stopped.....

Hi,

I use a navman and with it perched low on the windscreen and slightly left of the steering wheel I can see it and the road together i.e. like a hud display. This means I don't have to look away from the road to check my speed and in 3-D view it's a bit like having a (rally) co-driver (not that I 'rally' on the road  ).

Whilst you can dim the screen (and I do) I find that (with Navman at least) it is still rather bright at night but NOT really distracting.

Frankly I feel that this type of placing in general is more conducive to safety than Command as you don't have to look away from the road (as you do with Command.....except for new C-class where screen pops up at windscreen level) at all.

Cheers,

My satnav runs on my phone, in a cradle at the side of the radio.

I don't understand why people have it stuck to the windscreen. Its very silly.

That virtual cable thing looks inviting for late night blasts along unknown roads :) Foolish but I can see it happening....

Only when in the middle of the screen. I have mine right in the corner of the RHS of the screen - its tiny (old Garmin street pilot) and is smaller than the tax disc on the opposite corner. Spends most of its time in the glove box though as it has a habit of finding traffic hotspots.....

That HUD thing looks like the future but reminds me of playstation games... "hard left over crest" etc...
