Just wondered if anyone has come across anything similar. 2017 E-Class S213

I noticed a few weeks back that when I switched on the rear heated screen, I got an awful lot of interference on the radio. I just made a note to tell the garage at the next service (March). However this weekend the symptoms have changed and now the radio cuts-out completely when I switch the rear screen on. Also, if I have the radio display showing the station detail disappear as well which I presume means that the signal is missing.

I suspect that I will be using the rear screen more as autumn progresses so guess it will have to go in to be checked.

Might just be a case of a couple of wires not fixed in the correct place causing interference.

Probably in the headlining, though.

My old w204 used to do this, it was always worse if using Dab rather than FM. My car was out of warranty so I didn’t bother getting it fixed as when I researched the problem a few people said they had there rear screens replaced.

Problems like these are sometimes caused by one or more micro-cracks in the heater wires depositecd on the
glass. There is a "teeny weeny" gap that is arcing causing the noise that blacks out any radio reception.

If you live in an area with cold weather, it should be possible to see which wire that is broken
as any moisture stays when the rear window heater is turned on.

Putting something (sharp edged) in the rear boot can cause this. There is no inexpenceive way to fix it.
The rear window has to be replaced, OR the wire (if you can find it) has to be completely
cut off.

It can of cause also be a loose cable somewhere. If there is an antenna amplifier that shares the ground
with the heater and that connection is loose, then the negative connection will assume +13V
as the heater is turned on, this disableing the antenna amplifier. (The ground connection between the boot lid
and the chassis.)

Thanks guys. I can't see any breaks in the tracks but if they're micro I probably wouldn't expect to anyway.
It's still under warranty so I'll probably try and find time (we're moving house at the moment) to drop it in to the local dealer.

My w208 does this but only when using the Radio, (doesn't go off just depletes the signal). So I just select another source. Problem solved. Also I hardly listen to the Radio anyway....

So, if I can't listen to the radio (with the heated screen on), and with a crap Sat Nav, it makes me wonder why you pay all that money for a (superior?) Comand system (actually it was already on the car when I got itbut that's not the point!
