Have an E200 without ac. When I turn the heater fan on, the front side vents blow hot air but the central one blows cold air so have to switch off the vent. Any ideas would appreciated:)

This is normal. Nothing you can do about it. Its a design feature. The car was made that way.

This sounds strange...so there are 3 main vents at the front and the 2 side ones would blow hot and the big central one blows cold???!!! Is it just me or does this sound very odd?

It may seem unusual but it is the way the system is designed. I think it's because there would be no benefit in blowing hot air out of the centre vents. When it's cold you want hot air blown either on to the windscreen and/or side windows to clear the condensation or into the footwells to warm the car up. Just close the centre vents when it's cold, and open them when it's warm. It may not be climate control, but it's not too difficult! :)

hmmmm whilst I actually enjoy the cold air, it is the mrs that complains if the temp is anything less than boiling!!!:)

I also wondered this on my old C200, but put up with it, glad it's not a fault. I found the heater very good though and would end up getting too hot!

Those Germans love their fresh air.

It's the same on 190s. Just close it if it's too cold.

it says say in the handbook. centre vents only blow out cold air. it has to do with the duo controls. no point in making the left centre blow cold, while the right centre blows hot. so hot air comes out the sides while cold air comes out the cemtre.

It was a safety feature to keep drivers alert due to feeding cool air to the face irespective of the rest of the car temp.
