Hello!
"Just introducing myself - Confession of a lurker" should probably be the title on this post. Anyway - to the matter at hand, hello!
I'm a long-time enthusiast, zero time owner; I can’t remember a time in my life that I wasn’t enthusiastic about Mercedes, and really I’m not sure why I’ve never owned one (in more recent years my fervent enthusiasm for an s124 or w460/1 has been curtailed by my London-dwelling reality and the unending march of UELZ) – I've had a few other interesting and less interesting bits and bobs over the few years, but my lack of Mercedes is something I'm looking to rectify.
In truth, it’s the fast estate genre that does it most for me (unless such a thing as a ‘cheap’ w460/1 still exists). I’m on the look out for a S211 E55, or S204 C63 (facelift)
The E55 has been a fascination since a friend’s uncle had one new back in ’04 – even as a 10 or 11 year old I loved the shape, and the noise even more; sadly, the chap in question spent most of his life in France or Germany and so the E55, as his UK car, was laid up at my friend’s family home where as non-enthusiasts, they left it out under a tree and after some months the inevitable squirrel infestation took hold. I have unfinished business with the 55.
I feel that the S204 would be a more approachable size for my gf to drive, and I’m keen that we use whatever I end up with for trips to Scotland and into Europe. I’ve done a decent amount of research (I feel) on both cars through forums, the internet at large (the friendlier corners at least) and friends, but if you’re looking to sell an E55 or C63 wagon – please shout.
Enough droning on from me – Look forward to hopefully sharing more if/when I’m into the next car and sharing and learning more!
