Hello All,

I have just bought a 450 SLC from a very nice gentleman from Shrewsbury.

Just want to say hello and discuss the cars.

Angus

Hello,

It would be nice to see some pictures.

Simon

Wow, what a great car, you definitely want to get some pics up.
I almost bought one of those when I was a student, fortunately I didn't but at the time it seemed like such a bargain, to a gullible student at least. The decent ones still fetch serious money though and are really built to last, definitely a proper Mercedes.

Hello All,

I actually have some photoes stuck onto my camera at the moment. I will put some photoes on my profile soon.

The car was driven from Shrewsbury to Oxford and subsequently London with no problems as well. The quality of build is exceellent.

The crucial thing with these cars is RUST Its getting increasingly difficult to get body bits for them. Congratulations in buying the last real model Mercedes went rallying in.

Thanks Grober,

Mine actually has quite a few rust spot, the worst being above the sills, the sills themselves are great, but the pannel just below the chrome strip is not doing too well.

I bought the car quite cheaply, and mechanically it seems to be in good order, the last owner was a nice gentleman who is a professional engineer, and he does basic matainence himself. I know it is risky to buy a car without history, but this one actually seems fine.

The only thing I have had problems with so far is a squaking noise from the engine, play in steering and those rust!

I am planning to put it thorugh a small restoration when my Spitfire comes back.

List so far includes Brakes rebleeding and new pads, Engine Service, Steering sorted, and new engine mounts. If I have any money left I will definitely get slightly lower suspensions, but I do enjoy the comfort I have now, might leave the B roads to the Spitfire.

Angus

Hi and welcome.
SLC's are gorgeous cars! On a classic I think it's OK to buy a car that was maintained by the previous owner, those who own classics generally do look after them and do work themselves.
Did he keep receipts for parts that he bought to maintain it? That's always handy to have so you can find out what's been done to it.

Hello and welcome to the forums

I must admit to having had a sneaky look on eBay out of curiosity :o

Looks like an excellent car, and a bargain to boot! :) Enjoy!

Will

Hello Cjab98 and Will,

Yes he does and the parts he bought are all from Mercedes themselves, he mainly does the oil change and filters himself, others are done by garages, but no receipts.

Will you are right, I bought the car off ebay and it was the brown one that appeared about 7 days ago. I was prepare to pay about 1.5k for it, but I was lucky enough to get it for that price.

The main things are the front fender and the two rear quarter fenders. Would you know where is best to get parts?

Thanks

Angus

Hello,

Managed to take some pics better pictures of the car today.

The from quarter panel looks like it would actually need replacing as well, fingers cross not the whole wing. The car looks like it would need some scraping and new coats of underseal in the inside arches.

Those panels at the bottom of the front wings can be replaced, and you get enough metal to put the join under the rubbing strip. Have a good poke at any rust blisters under the corners of the rear window - the compound curve made mine a nightmare to fix as a DIY job, though I managed it in the end.

You'll be pleasantly surprised by just how many 107 parts are still available, and there seem to be any amount of 230SLC's around to break for body and interior parts.

I love my 380, V8 makes a beautiful noise. Would've loved a big engine like yours, but it was just an impulse buy at the time.

Hi and Welcome from an 107 SL owner. Please post another photo as the photo you attached is thumnail sized.

You may also be better posting in the "welcome" section rather than adding to a very old thread.
