First time to the forum so hi to everyone!
After some advice please - I have taken my CLK 280 into my local dealer because the engine management light has been appearing on the dash intermittently! It seems to appear when I spend more that an hour in the car with the engine on.
This has been happening on an off for a month but the dealer suggested in bring it in for a diagnostic the other day while driving the rev's dipped when I stopped at the lights.
After the dealer spending several hours on the car I was contacted by them and informed the their was a "Balance Shaft" problem in the engine and this was going to cost in the region of £2,500 (approx) to repair, still haven been given an accurate figure!
As you can imagine I was shocked, firstly because the car is on 3 years and 6 months old, it has 60,000 miles on the clock - Is this usual?
Also in the conversation the dealer went on to confirm that as a "gesture of good will" they were willing to cover up to 75% of the repair bill????? Why!?
My initial response was, thank you, and is this a common fault, manufacturing defect, etc, etc, - I haven't had any feedback yet.
Guys - Is this normal? Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I just be happy that they have offered to cover 75% of the bill or is this actually a defect with the car? Does the estimated £2500 sound about right?
Any advice would be welcome,
Thanks in advance
