Brethren and Sisters, we all exist on this Mortal Coil as Privileged Owners of all that MB has bestowed upon us, ok, there has been the odd lemon, here and there, but such is life!

Can't we all just join together in MB Harmony, forgive each others digressions and live ln perpetual Peace and Harmony?:dk:

PS: I've got a Real MB Windscreen, Signed by the Main Man, if I was to change it for ANY reason, I would insist that it was replaced "Like for Like" OR PAY THE DIFFERENCE!
Only to ensure that it went as fast as it did before, of course!:devil:

I'm confused by this whole thread, when did Mercedes start making windscreens anyway?

Argh. But you wouldnt have a windscreen to reflect how cool you are..or are you so cool you have mirrored lenses on the inside....
I am sure you have all the answers.

The most sensible post of this thread.

When I had my windscreen replaced on my 211 E55, I asked the Autoglass fitter about whether it would be an OEM screen or not.

He just said cars older than 3 years wouldn't get an OEM Mercedes screen and it was just what they fitted for this car where the spec was matching (i.e. it had the rain sensor). :dk:

To be fair, the one that was fitted was fine and I had no issues with the rain sensor in that car.

When I approached Autoglass about replacing the screen on my CLS55 the unit manager said they would only fit OEM if I paid for it or my insurers sent written authorisation. I asked about the difference between pattern and OEM screens and he advised they were all made in the same factories, just that those labelled as OEM had passed a higher QC level. Quite often the pattern screens were actually OEM but relabelled as demand was greater than the pattern supply....

Autoglass fitted a screen to my same vehicle a few years ago and it was a "like for like" OEM fitting and authorised by my insurers and i couldnt fault their expertise and workmanship. However the current screen fitted by a different Windscreen company who operate Nationally have not fiited "like for like" even though my insurers authorised it as such. I know it is only a windscreen (and a genuine MB part) but as a MB enthusiast i like to keep everything as original as possible, i can imagine there are many enthusiasts of any brand of car who would feel the same. The car is a keeper, probably will never be worth much and is still depreciating in value but i would have liked to have kept it original. The fitting by this national windscreen company has been abysmal and their complaints department give the run around. I would have preferred an original screen fitted before they attempt further remedial work on the botched fitting but looks like i will have to accept the screen i have been supplied with. TBH I will probably end up going to Autoglass once this saga is over to have the job done propperly whatever the cost.

I fully sympathise with your desire for originality in your car but the reality may be that supplies of the original part may simply be exhausted in the MB spares network and what has been provided is deemed an adequate substitute by MB. While there is an obligation for manufacturers to provide spares for a certain no of years [ 10 years rings a bell] total originality may be a grey area and "equivalence" may now be deemed adequate to fullfil their obligation??

If it's a genuine MB part then it's original surely? AMG models don't get a different screen to non-AMG models.

Imagine the chaos if every AMG owner that had a damaged windscreen wanted a new screen with AMG on it. Could be a small business opportunity here, AMG etched screens? As long as the replacement is for that model vehicle and correctly fitted with no leak or problem then surely that is the main thing.

I am speculating that there may have been more than one part number for the windscreen that fits the OP model and options, or that the new windscreen supersedes the older one.

The VIN will need to be run on EPC to confirm.

Am now so stressed after reading this thread that I am immediately going to go outside and examine my windscreen closely to check it is original. If I find out it is not I am going to have a complete breakdown

Ironic. You frown upon multiple threads but allow pack mentality of members to bully and intimidate and then dont like the bullied responding in kind. You should all be ashamed of yourselves

You need to get a sense of humour and reality!

It is a windscreen that is correct in type and supply but poorly fitted to a car, that should really be the end of the discussion

You came here for advice, did not like some of it and then responded in a churlish and provocative manner . You call members idiots when you have no idea about the significant contributions they make to this Forum when you have made little contribution of any benefit during your membership.

If you do not like it here do feel free to ask for your membership fee to be reimbursed ;)
