Hi all.
Having just driven all the way from London to Norway I have a car issue.

Its a CLC200k. I put a new engine in it as the timing chain snapped previously. The car sat not moving for 7 months. When the new lump went in a light came on (ECU) I had it checked, they said it was the MAF, and probably as it had been sat for so long, so could be dusty etc. They cleared the code and all was fine.

Last week it started running rough when Idling. When I put it from Neutral to Drive it jolts forward a little, and when I drive its in some sort pf emergency mode and doesnt change from the gear it goes off in. No light is on the dashboard. I thought it could be related to the MAF?

Everything is super expensive here so I ordered an OBD2 Scanner and plugged it in today.

The 3 codes were
P201C - Powertrain
P201D - Powertrain
P205A - Powertrain.

Can anyone help? What does this sound like it could be, and ay help on how to fix it.

Thanks so much in advance!

Thanks for the reply. I have two other codes also. I'm really looking to find out what this relates to and how to fix the issue, or if it is MAF related, or something like I need to change the spark plus.....

Oh really, do you know if it sounds like it is related to the MAF?

Evan getting it on a diagnostics machine in a garage here is £150! SO I am trying my utmost to at least try to get an indication of what the problem could be myself and trying to avoid some costs.

And it's killing me walking past it and cycling instead ;)

Rough idle could also be air leaks in the inlet system.
You could try unplugging the MAF, see if anything changes. You could try cleaning the MAF.
But without Mercedes specific error codes there's an awful lot of guessing, which can be expensive.

thanks for your reply. i got some MAF cleaner, took the air filter out, think i can see the black grill of the MAF now. disconnected the battery as well. Can i spray directly into it? Look quite tricky from this point to get the actual MAF out. Would spraying in whilst its in situ be dangerous or ill advised?

I checked my battery voltage on the internal engineers computer (in neutral then click the mileage reset dial 3 times. It read between 12.1-12.2 volts. Is this too low? its a 2008 model, and the battery is definately the original one....
Just a thought

Thanks Paul. I changed the battery and there are now no faults showing. However the car still jolts into gear and doesnt change out of second when im driving.

Any thoughts?

Im running out of ideas... I cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner as well.

Check ATF level is correct.
Could be a fault in the electro-plate, speed sensor is fairly common

Thanks. I took it to a garage last week, they dip sticked it.

They said it was slightly above the maximum mark, so I guess that cant be the problem? If you mean the Transmission fluid?

I put a litre in, then took it there and it was a few millimetre above the max indicator, they said that should be fine.....

How would I check the electro-plate?

Cheers

is that possible to do? to drain it I mean
although the problem was there before i topped it up..
