Help to find CLK alarm siren

My alarm is randomly going off, sometimes for only a short bleep or only indicators flash with no sound.
I am lead to believe this could be caused by a faulty alarm siren.
To test this I intend to unplug it until I can get a replacement.

Please can anyone tell me where this siren is located as I have heard it is behind either front nearside or offside wheel arch liner. As I have got mud flaps fitted removal of the liner will be time consuming so only doing the correct side will help me a lot

Car is 55 plate W209 CLK500 UK Right hand drive - in case this makes a difference

Front passenger side wheel arch, between wheel and door. You need a special torx bit with a hole in the centre to remove it.

On mine take off the nearside front wheel arch liner and its mounted behind there. Siren £100 from MB. I think they are called security torx?

Tony.

^ Make sure its a security one with a hole in the top Paul. Standard torx bits won't fit.

If you unplug it then you must protect the wiring loom connector from damp/dirt or it will get wrecked. It will make your life easier to do the whole job at once, i.e. go buy a new alarm siren and swop it

Thanks to all of you that have responded.
I still have concerns of which side the siren is fitted as the only pictures I can find online show the drivers ie uk offside.
Is it possible that left hand drive cars have the siren fitted on the opposite side?

I guess I will just have to go with one you suggest and keep fingers crossed

Great suggestion R but I have just tried and each time I only get the hazards flashing - no siren.
Sods law eh :wallbash:

I changed my W209 CLK siren a couple of months ago, its definitely on the nearside.

I found that out after removing the offside wheel arch liner first.

Many thanks to all of you :thumb:
Job is now done and new one installed.

Only difference is now I get audible alert on locking and unlocking.

That’s normal for a siren that has been fitted without programming with star; 3 beeps when locking, 1 beep when unlocking, if a door or bonnet is not properly shut when locking then only 2 beeps will sound.
