Hi I have a 250td 1998 had probs with the air con. so i got some refill gas from Halford and put it in every think ok, the next day it stoped working and i had a look around and there was some of the green gas on the radiator ????? does the air con go thourgh the radiator.

The air con condensor is in front of the radiator. It sounds like yours is leaking.

How much would it be to replace ?????????? is the condensor a part of the rad ???

It is more complicated than you think.
To start with, now that you know it's leaking it's against the law to put more gas in until it's repaired. The remaining gas must be recovered and recycled. That's also the law. On a more practical note, when the time comes for it to be refilled it must be done properly if you want it to not break down again very quickly. This involves drawing down a vacuum which removes the air, and more specifically the water vapour in the air, from the system so that the correct quantity of refrigerant and oil are the only things in it.

Try these links:-

ac4cars

airconditioningforcars

The first link will eventually link to the second, but I've saved you the bother of following the trail.

Good luck and welcome to the forums.

One thing to note when looking for spares is whether it was an original Mercedes installation.

My 98 C250TD had a Diavia aftermarket system fitted from new, it wasn't obvious until I went to the dealers and their suggested pipework was in different places. Checking the chassis number showed that as far as Mercedes were concerned it didn't have AC fitted.

Aftermarket condenser for that model is about £140....fitting and re - gas about £90

I paid an aircon specialist about £380 for a new condenser, pipework, receiver/drier and regas on my W202 c230k a couple of years ago. The job took basically one morning.
