Hi I have a C270 cdi Avantgarde which I inherited from my late father in law, I have had the car since last December, I have a problem with the radio/phone. The radio only works occasionally and at other times when I turn it on the display just says 'phone' and I cannot get radio to work. Sometimes the radio will come on and it will then switch between the radio station and phone. Any help or advice muchly appreciated as its driving me mad. Thanks.

Take it along to comand.co.uk who are not far from you. Alfie is the man who can.

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately not really got the time/money to spare at moment as recently had to replace the rear brake dust plates at a cost of £500, so will have to put up with it working intermittently for now, was wondering if anyone else has had similar problem or if it might of been loose wire/connection or fuse somewhere.

Hi

Its probably that the car has an aftermarket phone kit, which is randomly powering the "phone mute" input on the stereo (which it is only meant to do when there is a phone call active)

Hi Richard

Thanks for your reply is there anything I can do to correct this or is it a job for MB/Audio repairers? The problem started after the battery had died and had to be removed to be charged in order for me to get the car home from Cornwall.

If you remove stereo, extra wiring should be obvious, you could disconnect phone kit. Otherwise go see Alfie at comand.co.uk. Only 5 mind from you in lightwater. R

Hi Richard

I've taken centre console out and removed radio but wiring not obvious to me (unless I'm being a right numpty) , I've removed each set of wires individually but radio still displays PHONE.
Have you any idea how much Alfie would charge to look at it.
many thanks. D
