I Need a new one of these but without the big hole at the bottom, does anyone know either where u can them or what that hole is for?

I think the hole is for the auxiliary heater control panel.

You should be able to get a panel from a breaker. (Try a search on here for recommendations in this part of the world.) A new one from Mercedes-Benz is around £100.

Just looked at my book again and noticed that the auxiliary heater control panel is fitted forward of the gear lever - so it's not that.

It could be the control for the cabriolet roof. Have a look at this MSN site. Use ---- technical help --- DIY----- SHIFTER UPDATE and have a look at the pictures. Thought I knew most w124 websites but this is a new one for me.

w126 multifunction computer.
