Hi just found your forum tonight , in the process of buying a Merc for the second time a 123series 230E auto 1985 and cant wait to get back behind the wheel of this great car. I so regret ever selling my 220 Diesel .

Just one thing , and just for a change,the front star has been nicked anyone any good addresses to get another ?

Welcome to the club. You will find that the MB dealer's is the cheapest place for the bonnet star -about £11 after discount. I have seen a reserve price of £15 for ones on e-bay !

I agree MB dealer is best bet, and if you act think and ask a lot of questions about fitting it they will probably fit it for you, as it takes as long to explain as fit it. ( so I am told)

This is sooooo true ! I witnessed the same thing while queuing for a part the other week in the stealership. The guy in front of me was asking so many questions about fitting a wiper blade (after complaining for about 10 mins over the price!!) that the poor parts guy just went out and fitted it for him - I think he was glad to see him leave.

(In fact, had the parts guy not fitted it, I would have marched the guy outside to do it for him, or might have been waiting a long time !!)

If that happened to be anybody on here (with a 190), then thanks for the entertainment

I put the discount down to the friendly, customer aware parts man! No one should be paying full list price for anything. When I went to buy the star, I explained the part was not for myself. I was asked if the car was ever in their garage and I said-yes. Parts man then called up the car details to check he was giving me the right part.
