Hi guys,

First post in a while...

I've not used the CLK much since June apart from the occasional drive around the block but that's about.

Within the last 200 miles or so, I've had new rear pads, a new rear hub & bearing and the passenger side rear disk skimmed.

Today I took it out for a quick spin and discovered this noise......

Any ideas please?

Cheers,

The disk backplate has been bent onto the disk. Try having a look under the car, it would've been quicker than posting on here.

I'd say it's Minnie Ripperton - Loving You at 0.57 secs :thumb:.

Sorry, but it's hard not to be happy when October days are this sunny.

I'm sure the techies will be along soon.

Hi, as the noise is not constant I would suggest that a stone has become lodged between the disc and disc cover.

Hi, as the noise is not constant I would suggest that a stone has become lodged between the disc and disc cover.

This sounds feasible, as the noise has all of a sudden appeared.

If it is a stone, what's the easiest way of removing it?

Thanks for the replies.

Hi, the cover is quite flimsy, just push it out away from the disc by hand,it should flex enough for the stone to drop out.

To be fair to the op he wouldn't have posted if he knew what you have suggested could be the problem?

remove the wheel

look behind the disc

see if its touching the disc

and i also be you may have a stone between the disc and the dust , heat shield

i had a alfa do this one nite and it sounded like this and worse

Just imagine the noise when you fall in the gravel pit on a track day and get pulled out

Hi,did you get it sorted?

^not yet guys....not had the opportunity to take the wheel off.....will update as soon as i've had a look. Fingers crossed it's just a stone wedged!

Could also be one of the parking brake retaining springs that hold them to the backing
plate they can break off and get trapped inside the inner drum face

Just watched the video all the way through (way too much time on my hands), and it sounds like whatever was lodged in there came loose around the 0:40 mark anyway, solving your problem?

Well I thought that myself at first, so took it for another spin and yes, the noise had indeed stopped, but it returned within a couple of minutes of driving. So, I'm beginning to think CKLclive might be correct.

Hopefully if the weather is okay tomorrow morning, I'm taking it to get sorted.

Sounds like there's something not right with the parking brake to me also.

It's only a couple of bolts to remove the rear caliper, and one screw holding the disc to the hub - might be worth taking the disc off and having a look inside to see what's up :)

That's a picture of the parking brake setup on my old 300TE, but it should give you an idea of what's inside :)

Thanks for tip Will. :)

Is it really only one screw holding the disc to the hub?
