Hi all
As most of you know I am a total Ludite BUT when I move into my new place I no longer want to see the PC/Base unit etc and would like to combine some systems on to the PC, so my question is what Home network suggestions are around and what budgets, oh and do wireless monitors exist?

SO Functions
Wireless internet
Games (mainly Sims)
Poss combine with TV but unsure about this
Audio MP3 and CD to Mission speakers (via amp if needed)
MUST be discrete

Any other useful functions you guys can suggest.

Thanks all
M

In addition does anyone do a "Mac" type monitor with combined pc inside so all you would have is a monitor and keyboard?

Sony do "PC in a screen" with wireless keyboard, my dad is thinking of getting one. You can use it as a standard TV too.

Yes you can get wireless monitors - or at least a wireless sender - I wouldnt though, theres too many anomolies and you probably wouldn't enjoy the moment.

I would definitley though recommend buying a mac all in one and loading windows onto to it. We have done this to one of our mac networks and it works a treat. Ive been duel booting my macbook pro for a year now and have to say it works seamlessly. -its also extremely easy to do and you get the best of both worlds - some of the mac software is lovely to use.

As noted Sony do an all in one - although the last time I checked it makes iMacs look good value - plus Sony, not the most consumer friendly company at the moment. Check HP I believe they have just released something similar.

what about running PC games on a Mac, do they run as well?

Modern "Intel" Macs can now run bootcamp which allows you to create a new partition on which you can install XP. I haven't tried this mind but I hear it works well.

Then you'd be able to run anything Windows based on your Mac hardware :bannana:

The latest generation iMacs look fantastic,

I use my Mac Mini as a media server connected via HDMI to my TV. Playing Divx stuff you really woudn't know it was running on a TV as the sound is played via my amp.

Glass monitor/base unit. Yum. A friend upgraded her PC to one of these. It is so nice.

This is being posted from Windows Vista running on a Mac Pro :) It all works fine, no problems at all and the latest version of BootCamp comes with the Vista drivers too.

Also being able to dual-boot MacOS X And Vista is a real bonus.

Hello

Recently bought over 300 iMac 20" they are lovely machines, we have them running xp and leopard and so far so good.

You could get a wireless keyboard and mouse, and if you go for the 24" have it hung on the wall? get a TV tuner and away you go.

Or,

A mac book mini behind your TV, again wireless keyboard / mouse and away you go.

Or another Idea as we have just had viglen in for a visit is this unit, only really for surfing, e-mails, word and storing tunes but its tiny & cheap. £99 with linux and £170 with XP

Hi again guys. Been having a think on this (no comments please ;))

Could I have some feedback on this please:

Take my current PC, put it upstairs connected via a wireless router to broadband.

Use my laptop via a wireless LAN to access files/data on the upstairs PC.

OK so far so good I think BUT

Can I then use a game on the laptop down stairs that is stored on the hard drive of the PC upstairs and if so is the game running on the processor of the laptop or the upstairs unit?

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks
M
