Hillman Imps / Our other cars

Steady on. Start by cleaning your socket set and axle stands. Then check the dates on your trolley jack.

Which reminds me: why did the Mini outsell the Imp ten to one? Was it just engine size? It was certainly a cleverer design.

Or was it just stupid management accountants at Longbridge selling the Mini at a loss?
I found this article that seems to sum it up quite well (though our resident Imp experts may have a different view!)

I didn't know they had a Coventry Climax engine - that's a nice bit of racing heritage.

Hillman Imp - the forgotten Mini-basher that was so dearly underperformed

Onto the hotel for a couple of nights to relax, not a bad place to lay the head.

We were going to leave the cars in Parc Ferme as others had did (save on parking charges) but decided to drive them up to the Fairmont which involves driving right through Casino square.
Cars were a massive hit, I could feel the stares from the chaps with the Ferraris and Lambos wondering why folks were paying so much attention to our cars. :)

Decided to leave the cars in the Fairmont, wish I had got some pictures of the cars in the underground car park, some crackers, a real good laugh parking the Imps up next to them.

Off to the ACM for the Black Tie dinner event, very nice indeed.

Some trophies to take back home with us. :)

3 medals, concourse plus the big one. :)
My God, that’s enormous!

But you’ve probably heard that one before ! (Especially in those outfits)

“Chapeau !!” As they say down here.

Photos from the Fairmont car park tomorrow,
if the head clears

You did well to get down there, the valets don’t usually allow customers to drive up and down themselves, and even bring the car up “to get something” out of the car.

Or did you just not trust Fabio’a latest apprentice to drive it down there? 😁

Sounds like you’ve timed it well if there is plenty of spicy stuff down in the garage, there’s usually relatively few cars. Especially on weekdays out of season.

PS Now I know you’re in the Fairmont, then really do need to call in to Tip Top, you’re right by it. Walk up the hilll from the hairpin to Mirabeau (on the road) and it’s on the right as you head to Casino Square.

"Is there anything worn under the kilt?..........."
"No, it's all in perfect working order!"

Can we all come next time? I can’t help with maintaining the car on the journey beyond holding the torch, but I can pass you your coffee and feed you Murray Mints whilst you’re driving? 😁

Great idea.
There's more than enough tech talent and wagons on here to act as support crew/vehicles for a top notch Monte team.🤔

The thing I love about these "Garage photos" is that there are always dozens, literally dozens, of ...Interesting vehicles... resting under dust sheets.

It makes you wonder who, just who, is storing these cars, at these rates for the major chunk of the year?

Guys weren't keen on driving them so gave us the run of the place.

Need to be next time sorry, simply didn't have the time as it was black tie dinner first night then dinner had been arranged with some colleagues for second night then home.
With hindsight flying our partners down and staying a good few days would have been appropriate but this time I've been real pushed for time with work, an upcoming holiday then the show at NEC in March.
Hopefully get at least one of the Imps down and onto the Imp stand.

It’s the nature of the beast.

On the days great stuff happens we don’t have the “spare time” to relish it.

Thanks for sharing.

Well done to all of you!

Enjoy your stay in the south & hope you have a memorable - but event free - drive home.

Check you guys out Nikki Beach, in a few months you won’t be able too move for beautiful people lay on day beds!

Loved this thread, would be great if you could update it it’s the stories you didn’t have time to post whilst driving down there 👍🏻
