HK Woofer rattle

Yes I have the same issue and it is driving me nuts.

Any news or advice on this one?

Is is worth paying the extra for the Harmon Kardon system and is there much of an improvement over the standard audio?

Massively. If the sub is sounding crap you either need to get it looked at or tune the system. Mine did rattle a little bit , but it only does it when the car is stupidly cold inside , as soon as the interior warms up the rattle disappears.

Ive not used my car for a few weeks with the snow and used at the weekend and  soo good. Wee bit of techno on the way home last night and it was quite simply stunning.

Comparing the system to the B&O system in the aston martin rapide and tbh there isnt a great deal of difference between them .

Im delighted with mine.

hello, just got a 2010 W204 with HK and have noticed the rear parcel shelf vibration when volume and bass high.

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem??

Thanks.

Try placing some dynamat around where the subwoofer sits

It maybe that this needs expanding to the body panels such as the boot lid and rear wings depending on what is vibrating (which will require trial and error).

Thanks people, packing out is my general feeling too. TBH I haven't had much of a chance to look at it as I can't really crank it up that load outside my house.

The night I did I just pulled over in a b and q car park. It appeared to be the parcel shelf vibrating. If I put pressure on the shelf it stopped. So my feeling would be more foam between speakers and shelf - not sure what voids there are?
Am happy to pay someone to do it, can't decide who will be best; main dealer (doubt it), PMW Chelmsford (well thought of independent), or a car audio specialist (should have a good idea whats going on).

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

The sunwoofer unit appears a pretty substantial unit. Play it loud so that it rattles/vibrates. Climb in the back and apply pressure to trims and panels until the noise disappears.
Apply dynamat / equivalent sound deadening or some foam if the trim has lots of flex.
A combination of the 2 is best.

Repeat process until all rattles have disappeared. Usually the parcel shelf needs doing first, then c pillar trims, sometimes even headliner.

I doubt the weedy HK sub is causing any metal panels to resonate, but you won't know until the interior is properly sorted.

I would think either of the two latter suggestions but ensure they are good!

I would still rather do it (and did) myself - it isn't too hard to do.

Any vibrating panels means you are wasting sound energy.

Thanks for your suggestions. As already stated I haven't had a chance to have a good look at it yet and thus am not too sure as to the complexity of the job. I have a W204 saloon so I assume I get to everything from underneath in the boot?

Which Dynamat do people us?

Thanks, Bill

On mine, I fitted an aftermarket sub where the one pictured should go and I can access through the top by removing the grill or underneath - not sure if the same as yours...

Dynamat is a brand really. We should say sound proofing I suppose. Like you 'Hoover' with your Dyson - but really you vacuum, you don't Hoover!

I'm sure there must be other brands of it but I've always used Dynamat.

I'm not too technical but had a quick look with a torch and from the boot I could see a few gaps in the panel under the parcel shelf. Didn't take much of a prod of the visible foam to get the parcel shelf moving quite a lot so I'm thinking this obviously needs packing out. Will do a bit of trial and error when I can get out to a deserted car park.

You could shove some foam into any orifices you find (in the car!).

I think V12 or Sinewave used rolled up underlay in their parcel shelf.

Yes, i've used foam underlay several times in several cars. Works a treat.

I didn't do it on mine although it never needed it - but I was not happy with the sound of my sub at louder volumes so I reset and started again.

Now I am very happy with sound but certain songs vibrate the shelf now whereas they didn't before - so I will have to try this trick myself!

Just need to get some offcuts of underlay.
