Hmmm thoughts on this ULEZ tip car runaround.....

And it's been relisted at £100 cheaper too, but still: No fear...

I've found a couple of much better bets, both much cheaper and with decent history and long MoTs. Cooper Ss really are cheap as chips at the moment...:D

But as much as I like the other gay one, this is the "one" , right age , right colour, right engine, right price and potential appreciating asset

£395 VED o_O It's a Mini for goodness sake!

Hi , most convertibles are like driving a jelly in comparison to the vehicle that they are based on.

Even some high priced Italian sports cars are flexible to say the least.

Must admit I like it too - apart from the fact the NSF tyre is as flat as a fart.

Both look great to me. Especially the ragtop. Go for it Brett. 🥳

Doggo number 1 going in for teeth removal operation tomorrow so will see what the exorbitantly high bill comes to and whatever I have left is going on the silly car fund. The hatch will be so much more fun for me but I'm sure the girls will much prefer the vert so any excuse to spend some time with them :)

Got one. Not a soft-top; the soft-top boot lid hinges downwards, and it wouldn't suit my dog. The hatchback is fine, though.

God, it's fun, though; wheel at each corner, 170 bhp, as eager to go as the SLK, changes direction like a stabbed rat, flickable like a dream, handles beautifully even on its cheap tyres (in the dry - I'll be changing them before winter...). It's not the best bang for your buck I've had by a long chalk, but easily the best fun for buck. It's way slower in a straight line than any AMG, but a soft-top could replace the SLK as my convertible, and I'd take the CLS when I take my dog.

If I'd known, I'd have had one years ago. A big Thank You to @poormanporsche for planting the seed...

Cool, which year? Did you get an r56 Cooper S?

They’re priced well but I’ve been too put off by all the scary engine reliability talk. Might settle for standard Cooper (Clubman) if the boot is big enough for the stuff I need to regularly load into it.

No, a 2005, an R53; the supercharged version. They don't suffer from the (relative) engine unreliability of the later turbocharged ones.

There's a little bubbling just starting in a couple of places (boot lid where the trim meets it, just below one rear light cluster, bottom rear of one front wing), but it IS just a little; it's sound underneath. It's a winter hack, 105K miles and eighteen years old, and I didn't expect perfection for £2K...

Nice one.

I've bought one too. I also bricked buying the vert and went for a hatch.

It's 20 years old and had nearly as many owners. One of which seems to have been Mastic Man. The steering is heavy, the gearbox is stiff, the dashboard clunks and crashes over the slightest bump. It has chavvy wheels and tints. The seats don't work properly. It's had a bad respray down one side. The mot history has more red than the Kremlin. Leaks oil, water and petrol. 23 mpg - oopsy !

But, I love it. The Supercharged engine has been faffed about with and is just so addictive. It's not that quick compared to more modern stuff but it really does have such a soul !!!!! It just demands to have the pants ragged at every opportunity. !!!

I was gazumped on my absolutely perfect car (purple car, white roof, white stripes, white wheels etc) so just went out and bought the cheapest runner I could find. I really cannot think of any other car out there that is so much fun for so little money - £1500 I paid !
