How many light sensors does the 203 have?

I know about the windscreen mounted sensor but there must be more?

Yesterday I noticed while driving to work the headlights were on (about 7am) and COMAND was in night mode. Then part way to work COMAND switched to day mode, headlights still on. Pulling into my parking spot I noticed the cornering fogs were not coming on as I maneuvered but the headlights were still on.

So, what told COMAND to switch to day mode? And what told the cornering fogs not to illuminate?

I am sure there is only one.....

I'm sure on the w220 there are two light sensors on the top corners of the comand unit. Also there is one on the speedo panel.

So do the various units react differently according to the measured light level from the one screen sensor? Rather than there be a single trip level?

Clever!

The 203 doesn't adjust the cluster lighting automatically, well not that I have noticed.

I have scrutinised the COMAND front and not seen anything I recognise as a sensor..

The way the cornering fogs didn't come on seems to indicate the car 'knows' when their function would not be of benefit. But then the headlights are on.... ????

The light senor is about a 3mm diameter circle possibly amber in colour.

On the w220 the comand's brightness is definitely independent of the outside lights. It has three modes; bright, dim, night.

According to the manual the display brightness is only automatic in the daytime. At night you can manually adjust.

It always surprises me how clever these cars are.

sorry I just reread my last post and to clarify when I said "display" I was referring to the instrument panel.

Cheers

Theres light sensors on the COMAND (look to the side of the DVD slot, small round lens, theres one on each side, I think one is light sensor, one is IR remote).

Now, I dont know whether the light sensor there is used on all cars, but it is used on the ML. And I can't remember whether it also uses the lights on signal (or the car's light sensor signal) in some complex way to decide whether to use the light sensor.

Remember, for instance, in the Vito/Viano/Sprinter the light sensor on the windscreen is an option.
