Hi

What would you expect to pay for a SL Class Panoramic roof panel from a breakers?

You see I've decided to upgrade my non pano roof and was just quoted £1,500 by a breaker!

I have not seen it yet and don't know if it includes the ceiling liner, but just thought I'd get a ball park figure.

2. Also, am I correct in saying that the R230 models from 2004-2007 have the same roof?

3. And ditto, does the SL350 Pano fit the SL500/55/63? I.e they are the same part?

They are like finding hen's teeth so I'm just trying to widen the search parameters as far as I can! (But don't want to buy one that doesn't fit).

Many thanks for your advice :-)

Robert

Oh,

I also assume that it's a fairly time consuming & therefore pricey job to swap the old and Pano roof sections over?

Presumably a good indie, like PCS, could do it and fine tune the alignment?

The last thing I want is leaks!

Has anyone done this upgrade to their SL?

Who did it for you and how did it work out?

Thanks,
Robert

i have seen them cheaper on ebay around 750 and that is either panel or whole pano roof r230

The breakers who are offering the Pano roof are Hills Salvage & Recycling Ltd in Skelmersdale, Lancanshire.

The cost by the way is £1,500 PLUS vat, so £1,800 :eek:

I was thinking of offering £1,000 + vat. What do you think?

Thanks
Robert

This is one item I would definitely want to inspect first before spending/offering any money wherever you source it from .

Advisable to get a quote from a respected indie for the cost of swapping them over too - before you go any further.

Have bought quite a few used item from hills...never had any problems, but for something like this, as its used you would defo need to view and check for damage...if good I would offer no more than £750 - 1000 cash...

That good advice, thanks :-)

So where on earth does Hills Salvage get £1,800 inc vat from? Its a fortune (a rip off).

Or is it just an old fashion 'Try on' because its for a Mercedes owner...?

I'll ask Olly at PCS for a quote to swap them over, once I've found a reasonably priced one....

Thanks everyone :-)
Robert

I made an offer of £1000 inc vat for the panoramic roof panel and Hills Salvage have come back with £1,200 inc vat.

What do folk think about paying £1,200 for a Pano roof panel. I mean £1,000 is more than enough? Am I right or wrong?

What's more, I'll have to get it to a paint shop, and then have Olly at PCS swap it out, so that's 2 additional costs to add to the initial £1,200 bill.

I'd really like to have a Pano roof, its the one thing the car lacks, but at the same time I don't want to squander money! £1,200+ would easily buy 4 new tyres, for example!

Your wisdom and views would be appreciated.

(I've asked Olly for an estimate for fitting the pano roof, by private email. Painting I can only guess, £300?)

Thanks,
Robert

Just reading the thread!!! A thought wouldn't the motors and hydraulics need upgrading too as the pano roof is a lot heavier ???

Sellers market , they have one , there's not many around , and you want one.

They can charge what they like , if you don't buy it , someone else will.

That's a fair point!

Does anyone know whether the cars with factory Pano roofs have different hydraulics, etc?

Thanks,
Robert
