Hi all

As much as I love the sound that my CL55 makes, I want to play music from my iPhone for those long journeys, so does anyone know the bestway for me to do this as this model is too early for Bluetooth.

Thanks

Pete

Call comand.co.uk (forum sponsors) with your VIN, they'll look up your build sheet and tell you what you need, but don't be surprised if they tell you music streaming from a iPhone is not available unless you install aftermarket kit!

The usual BT puck won't audio stream, just handles calls (but does that well)

Do you have an aux cable / 3.5mm Jack in the glove box?
If so that's your best route.

If not, swap out a CD changer for an Aux connection or probably better, get an Android HU

If your 'radio' has an AUX option on the menu or an AUX button you might have the part of the wiring loom that allows the plugging in of an MB part that threads up to your glove-box to fit a 3.5mm jack plug. look in the glove-box , on the side you might see a moulded indent that can be pushed out and the MB aux jack plug goes there, obviously the phone/ipod you use has to have a 3.5mm output or you can probably get a Bluetooth adaper to fit in the 3.5mm once it is installed in the glove-box.

NOTE : The presence of the moulded indent in the glove-box is NOT a guarantee that your car has the necessary wiring installed.

For that you have to pop up the cover of the passenger side door sill and find a 2 pin plug (female) that appears to be doing nothing, thats the one for the lead 210-440-50-05 'Cable harness'.

I have a new and unused genuine MB cable going for a song (geddit ?) If you decide you need one. :thumb:

Thanks for your help, noted as was expecting an aftermarket kit as the best solution.

Sounds like a fab idea to swap out the CD changer as never saw me using it and will take a look at the Android HU.

Thanks, I will take a look later inside the glove box as looks another fab solution, will come back to you if this is a route I can go and appreciate the offer to buy the MB Cable, so will let you know - if this works, I will 'sing' your praises (geddit) :)

It depends entirely on what audio system was fitted to your car from new. Search the web and see if the cable I have will work for you.

A previous owner disconnected the cable to the six cd changer and routed it into the centre console. I have a lightning connector which I then plug into an iphone.

It all depends on what you want to spend. Aftermarket head units are expensive and wont have all the functionality in the OEM unit such as steering wheel control and system config if applicable but will give you BT, DAB and music streaming. I have gone with a mother cheaper solution and use a Nextbase DAB350BT for BT telephone, music streaming and DAB, it only cost £35. Sound is not concert hall quality but fo a car is good enough IMO.

Brilliant idea, this sounds the way to go, I guess it is how you join the two up, ie the iphone lightning cable and the cable from the cd changer?

Thanks will check out your solution so much appreciated.

Really helpful, appreciate the photos, I will take a look on the weekend at the CD Changer and see if I can easily get to the cable. Is the black connector in the photo the original cable that comes from the CD Changer do you know, or is that a new after market product? Sure will become clear when I get at it.

The previous owner told me that the wire to the multi cd changer in the dash had been disconnected and routed into the centre console. It looks original, though that is pure speculation. If you do this, can you keep a photo journal so that I can understand it too?

I'm quite grateful that this was done, as it has saved me far more expensive and invasive options. There is a parrot too for phone calls.

The good thing about the iphone connected, is that I can control most useful functions from my apple watch.
