I've been slow to remove the condensation in my headlight housing. Now I have several breeds of fungi growing inside.

The housing looks to be a sealed unit, other than the small service hole in the rear. With all the electronic connections inside I'm reluctant to slosh water inside.

Any suggestions for how to remove the mould?

Thanks.

Well I tried various things and eventually gave up and went for warm soapy water sloshing around inside. All the mould has gone and it's now drying over a radiator. Well see tomorrow whether the lights work any more!

I think as long as the lighting unit has been stripped out, i.e. lamps removed, etc etc, then you should be OK.

A bit of Jeyes fluid may be a good idea to make sure you kill off all the bugs. Otherwise, although it looks and feels clean and dry, it may not be quite as clean as you might like. Time would tell, of course!

The cleaned lens :)

But I did find that the side-light bulb was melting on the bulb lens rather than the electrical connections. These bulbs were free with my Philips X-treme bulbs I bought the other month. I've learnt again that there is no such thing as a free lunch.

That's a good job. When you reinstall the light, take every opportunity to run around with yours headlights switched on. That should burn off any undetected moisture.

If it happens again, use a solution of chlorine, it kills mould on contact. My Dad uses it to clean his paths at home, it works great.:)

Had this on the rear light clusters of the wife's Puma. Just washed them out with a mild (10:1) bleach solution. The rinsed with hot water and put them in a warm oven for an hour!
