How would I go about turning an html page into an excel spreadsheet?

If the HTML page uses tables it may be a case of copy/paste and some tweaking afterwards.
If you don't get the layout you want first time, then try the other paste options select Edit > Paste Special... before you mess around with formatting.
The clever alternative is to use Get External Data. I forget which menu it's on, but it really is very clever. Just follow the wizzard or search in Help.
Get External Data dynamically pulls data from a website table, and imports it to Excel so you never have to update the data in the spreadsheet manually -providing someone maintains the website.
