I took my E class to my local garage who service my chauffer car to have all the oils changed and was told that they could do all the other oils but could not do the gearbox as it does not have a dip stick and I would have to take it to Mercedes. I rang Mercedes in Blackburn and was told that it reqired a special tool, so for the oil, filter and gasket it would be wait for it .......£250  When I picked myself off the floor I said I would let them know. I thought yes the special tool will be me if I went ahead and paid that for new oil in my gearbox ! Am I right in thinking it can be done cheaper than that somewhere ?...............

Give Ian Walker a ring in the morning over at 124 Works in Kirkham. I'm sure he will sort you out. Spera fellow forum member, chauffer and Mercedes driver with an E270 uses Ian for his servicing.

Ring after 0930.

That 'special tool' is £3 or £4 off Ebay...

Also read Olly's (BlackC55) thread in 'HOWTO'.

Thanks I will get in touch with him................

PM a chap on here called momo ? (I think thats it) for oil, and see if he has any.

Otherwise check with Opie oils.

Dont bother with the Sealy dipstick, the end is plastic and breaks off
The ebay ones tend to be a bit of coiled spring wire with a bit of metal squeezed on the end.

The best and correct ones you can get from inchape MB parts or other dealers for around 20 quid. Even the gaskets are similar from MB.
Its the oil that costs About 7 ltrs ?? But yes look for Olies thread about it :thumb:

Ian has just changed the fluid in my sl... Makes it so smooth.. And the new fluid ain't cheap so that's a good price.

Its booked in 09-30 Thursday !

You will have to take your own hobnobs unfortunately :(

And anyway, since when did they upgrade the M65 to cobbles? :bannana:

I had heard that so I will take some ! As for the M65 joking aside it would be better if it was cobbles in places as the size of some of the pot holes its not funny when you hit them especially towards the Colne end.By the way will I need my passport tomorrow

My local indie has 'The Tool' and did me a gearbox oil change for £130+vat. Worth knowing if you live in or around Staffordshire .

Car now over at Ian,s (124 works) few more problems found when Chris checked it.The front spring mounts have come away on both sides and Ian said it could be dangerous, also it needs a new front crossmember type thingey as old one is rotten so thought I would leave it there and get it all done at once.Ian very kindly lent me a car to go home in aswell which was very good of him..........
