Holy Moley! :bannana::rock::bannana::rock:

Black BMW-E60 M5 07-plate; how can one justify being in love with an object so much? I was treated to a short trip today...

Fast? $H!T yes

Scared? $H!T yes

My friend had it in 500 M-mode (whatever that is) and all I can say is hard ride, but my word - the power!, I was speechless. £68,000 it cost apparently; I'm saving up already.

Oh, and iDrive looks very complicated

Very good car the M5 but the E55/63 is quicker in a straight line till about 100 mph. You shoud try the E55 or E63 one day if you have the chance

The other day I read of someone who does quite a lot of mileage and has had an M5 for 6mths (bought new) and finds it too intense (and that's presumeably without the M button pressed) so wants to get rid.

I've never sat in an M5 but i've had the pleasure of sitting in the E55K, and WHAT A BLAST. (Seriously) u need to try sitting in one of those, torque mental or what.

Dont even want to think what the E63 would be like (definately quicker than both e55 and m5, but less torque than the e63).

I had a few drives in my Boss's E55 Estate 2004 model and at the time I had a BMW 330ci which was reasonable fast....

Not a chance. Having felt the acceleration up to 100 mph its crazy, the speedo was going round as quick as my rev counter.

I was very impressed, more so as my dad has a E320cdi Estate and inside it could be the same car, his feels quite quick for a big car but the E55 WOW.

The person that ownes that was looking to swap last year to a Audi RS6 Estate (is that the V10 lambo engine) but he still has the E so it must be good.

Awesome car.

I kept this quiet here for obvious reasons but the old man recently swapped his S Class for a E60 M5.

I would concur with everything Rob says, and also add the following.
The Head Up Display is achingly cool.
The downchange blips are addictive.
507 BHP is a very good thing.

We actually used it as our wedding car. :)

Is there any talk of Benz introducing a head up display on their cars?

This seems a slow uptake with other makers for some reason, I think Chevvy and Citroen are the only others at the moment and only on top end stuff. I miss it when driving another car.

I do like it ;)

I had the HUD in my 535d sport touring, it is an awesome bit of kit.
Plus I drive abroad alot so switch it to LHD mode so you get KM instead of miles, L/KM instead of MPG and KMPH instead of MPH, it makes the whole drive so much easier.

You don't really notice it when you are driving....

But as soon as you look at it it snaps into focus...

The M5 is an animal, it is the brutality in the way it delivers the power that is simply stunning, it makes you loose your breathe!!

I think that I would take the E55/63 over the M5 though, just as quick but easier as an everyday car.

Absolutely, HUD - pretend I'm a fighter pilot

Mike
It's kinda undignified when you keep going attack, attack, attacke. I dread to think what you'd be like with the three pointed star aiming sight on the bonnet  :D

Have you bought that new TV yet?

regards
John

Clarkson's test on top gear

Merc E63 estate 1 BMW M5 estate 0

I would also have the Merc.

He got that spot on, the BMW is more exciting, more of a drivers car, and will thrill you more every time you take it out, but you buy an estate to get you and your family around and for that the Mercedes makes far more sense.
