Picking up my new car on Saturday (e350 sport) it has the iphone cable in the glove box but it's for an iphone 4. If I buy the 30 pin adapter will this allow me to use the same functions as you would with the 4? Eg steering wheel controls

Cheers buddy. Will probably have a load more questions Saturday ha ha. Stereo is harmon kardon so I couldn't face the drive home without some quality tunes on

Be careful which adaptor you buy. A lot of the cheap ones out there only map over the power pins so don't let you play music.

Will get a genuine one. It's got media interface. What exactly do you get with this?

Media interface allows you to plug in an iPod or USB drive and play the music through the speakers with the tracks text and artwork appearing on the screen and all operated via the wheel or the steering wheel controls.

Cheers mate. Can I just plug in my I phone 5 lightning cable into usb and play tracks this way? Can't wait to pick it up

Sadly not - you'll only get full iPod control using the media interface cable

The USB port will charge your iphone 5 via the lightning cable but nothing else.

A 30 pin ipod or iphone connected to the media interface not only gets full music control but also access to videos on the device. Unfortunately the 30 pin to lightning adaptor only allows power and music but no video.

Hope this helps

Cheers for clearing that up. Most important bit is the music as you can't watch videos while driving so that won't bother me. Cheers for the help guys will get some piccys up when I get her.

You have to get the DAC adapter from the Apple store and costs about £25.
DAC stands for digital/ analogue adapter as the iPhone 5 lightening socket, outputs its music as digital, Whilst the iPhone 4 outputs it as analogue, hence tou have to convert the iPhone 5 output to analogue.

What about a bluetooth connection with the 5s

The iphone 5/5S cradle doesn't have Bluetooth in it. So it relies upon the headunit having Bluetooth. This, in general applies to the model year 2009 cars (late 2007 for W204) onwards. The cradle provides power and access to the cars antenna.
