I do any of you out there know if you can monitor the gearbox temp using the icarsoft diagnostics machine, I am looking at changing and fluid and this is the only thing I'm struggling to sort before doing the job?

No but pinging the pan with a IR thermometer should be OK.

I have read that there can be a difference of up to 10 degrees between an ir thermometer and star.
Quite a large gap when it's a quite crucial reading that is required??
So in Icarsoft there is no function in the live data to take a gearbox temp reading?

This is something that I have tried to investigate in the past. It would seem that the Star DS is the only guaranteed solution and that instruments from iCarsoft and Autel as well as the numerous 'Apps' that display OBDII data will not provide Tx fluid temperatures. That is not to say that adding/changing software code would not allow this to be achieved, but that is beyond my comprehension and abilities.
As mentioned at post #2 an IR thermometer can be used; these are accurate, consistent and reasonably cheap. Alternatively one can use thermocouples in imaginative ways!
