On my W208.465 attached to the fuel cap is a rubber "string" that attaches the fuel cap to the car. Mine has come off at the joint with the ring that goes round the fuel cap.

In this picture it looks like it is all one piece with the filler cap (No 77)

Does anybody know if you can just buy the rubber connector thingy on its own or does it just come with the fuel cap.

If it comes with the cap, then it is probably not worth replacing. Any ideas how to "weld" it back together.

Could I melt it back with a soldering iron, blow torch.????? Ideas greatfully received.

Obviously I would take it off the car before putting a naked flame near the petrol tank:eek:  :)

Hi Matt, if you prise back the plastic outer ring where the rubber string come out through the U slot, you will see that it ends in a T section and just lifts out, the other end just un plugs

Thanks for the reply this is what I have, I have prised it off, the problem is the rubber has broken from the T junction.

Can I just buy a new rubber? It looks to me like it is all one part from the russian dodgy EPC.

Can i fix it?

Sorry yours is slightly different to my picture,,it is still available as a spare part,, yours has a ring and the one in my picture end in a T they all the same though

Thanks when I prise the rubber out of the ring mine "had" a T junction on the end , but the rubber has perished at the joint of the T junction.

I will ask the stealer tomorrow if I can just buy the rubber bungee thing.

Super glue is marvelous on rubber.

Bazzle

Yes I agree,it works on rubber better than any thing else.

Looking last night it may only come with the cap, I always place my cap into the slot provided.

I will play around over the weekend and see if I can make one

Can't you thread a bit of cord through the hole where the T piece went, and knot it on the other side?

I bit of black shock cord, or even a bit of string.

One of those free, and never used wrist straps off a mobile phone might work. I've got one you can have.

I all depends upon how the other end is secured to the car...

I am trying a shoe lace ,,its easy to fix on the retaining little cap on the car by just drilling a hole through it and tying a knot, using super glue on the knots

Never thought about getting mine fixed, I just use the cage in the filler door.

I have a mobile phone thingy, will have go with that if the superglue does not work.

thanks all
